Israel runs one of the most aggressive and damaging espionage networks targeting the US, yet public discussion about it is almost zero.
This reality makes the saga of Chas Freeman even more unbelievable:
Charles “Chas” Freeman, Obama’s pick to head the National Intelligence Council, has withdrawn from contention for the job. The Daily Beast’s Max Blumenthal reported that the leader of the campaign against Freeman was Steven Rosen, a former director of AIPAC awaiting trial on espionage charges, who has a long history of attacking and undermining anybody he deems hostile to Israel.
No problem, writes leading Zionist fanatic Daniel Pipes, who argues the following in the introduction to his latest missive to subscribers:
Dear Reader:
As many of you may know, Charles Freeman “has requested that his selection to be Chairman of the National Intelligence Council not proceed.”
What you may not know is that Steven J. Rosen of the Middle East Forum was the person who first brought attention to the problematic nature of Freeman’s appointment, in a February 19 blog titled “Alarming appointment at the CIA.” Within hours, the word was out; and three weeks later Freeman has conceded defeat. Only someone with Steve’s stature and credibility could have made this happen.
Even those who backed the Freeman appointment acknowledge Steve’s leadership in this effort. For example:
- Andrew Sullivan, former editor of The New Republic, calls Steve “the leader of the anti-Freeman brigade.”
- The director of policy for the Israel Policy Forum calls him the “quarterback” of the effort.
- Max Blumenfeld of The Nation Institute calls him “leader of the campaign against Freeman’s appointment.”
I congratulate Steve and am proud of this early achievement by the Forum’s newly created Washington Project.
Yours sincerely,
Daniel Pipes
To these people, devotion to the most extreme Zionist policy is the only game in town. They should be confronted on this every step of the way. The result, of course, is a Jewish state that remains more internationally isolated than ever before.
Freeman himself has put out a statement, which warrants a thorough reading:
The libels on me and their easily traceable email trails show conclusively that there is a powerful… lobby determined to prevent any view other than its own from being aired, still less to factor in American understanding of trends and events in the Middle East.… The tactics of the Israel Lobby plumb the depths of dishonor and indecency and include character assassination, selective misquotation, the willful distortion of the record, the fabrication of falsehoods, and an utter disregard for the truth.… The aim of this Lobby is control of the policy process through the exercise of a veto over the appointment of people who dispute the wisdom of its views, the substitution of political correctness for analysis, and the exclusion of any and all options for decision by Americans and our government other than those that it favors.
