Barack Obama is the President-elect of the United States. His acceptance speech was moving, eloquent and brought a tear to my eye (and I’m usually increadibly cynical about politicians in general.)
The future is now utterly unclear (and far-right Republican nutters are already telling supporters to “not apologise for our beliefs”. Well, yes, except that bigotry was roundly rejected in the face of an economic melt-down and two criminal wars.
Like every person of good faith, I wish Obama luck in the coming four years, alert to the reality of the challenges ahead (not least on Israel/Palestine, where Ralph Nader recently explained that Obama has thus far expressed an uncompromising Zionist agenda which precludes any chance of peace.)
I wish I could “know hope“, but alas…
