Jewish blogger Philip Weiss examines the ways in which the issue of Jewish power is rarely discussed in the mainstream, but clearly needs to be if the disasters of the Bush administration are to be fully examined.
Why can’t we talk openly about the role of Jews and Israel behind the Iraq war? Why can’t we discuss the role that Israel plays in the thinking of Islamic fundamentalism? Why do many Jews believe that such discussions should only be discussed among Jews, rather than with the whole community?
This is something I’ve been thinking about and writing for years. Israel should not be beyond criticism, and nor should Jewish power, and yet Zionists want to quarantine some topics. Years of neo-conservative failures and outright crimes have made that delusion impossible.
